Driving With Hazards On: Is It Illegal in Georgia?

A summer storm rolls through Metro Atlanta with thousands on the road. Not an unfamiliar sight and neither is a vehicle with its hazard lights activated.

Is that legal and is it safe?

In Georgia, drivers may have their hazard lights activated even in the rain. However, police and driving clubs say it is not a good idea. Many states are outlawing the practice including Tennessee and Florida. First responders say hazard lights may blend-in or distract drivers from seeing brake lights or turn signal and could cause accidents.
Are you traveling out of state? See if where you’re driving has a restriction on flashing lights.
If you’re involved in a wreck because the lights on the vehicle in front of you made it difficult to see their brakes or turn signal, contact Ashenden and Associates, P.C.
